Kernal Cloud

Cookies and what we store

Short version: nothing that tracks you is set unless you say yes. The only things stored without asking are the ones that make signing in work, and they are gone when you sign out.

Strictly necessary

These are set only when you use the customer portal, and only because without them the portal cannot tell one signed-in person from another. UK law does not require consent for these, and we cannot offer to switch them off, because switching them off means switching off the login.

NameWhat it doesHow long
kc_session Keeps you signed in. It holds a random value; the matching record lives on our server, so the cookie itself reveals nothing. 3 days, or until you sign out
kc_csrf Stops another website from submitting forms as you. 8 hours

Analytics, only if you accept

We use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages people read and where they arrive from. It is switched off by default: the page tells Google to store nothing before its script even loads, so declining is the state you start in rather than something you have to trigger.

NameWhat it doesHow long
_ga Tells one returning browser from another, so a visit is not counted twice. Set by Google Analytics. 2 years
_ga_<id> Keeps the state of the current session for Google Analytics. 2 years

We send Google an anonymised IP address. We do not run advertising cookies and we do not sell anything to anyone.

Your choice, remembered

Your answer to the banner is kept in your browser’s local storage under kt_consent, not in a cookie — so it is never sent to our server. It expires after a year and we ask again. Remembering a refusal is itself strictly necessary: the alternative is asking you on every page.

Change your mind

This forgets your answer and shows the banner again on your next page view.

Other sites in the group

Each Kernal Tech site asks separately, because a browser keeps this choice per website. Accepting on kernaltech.co.uk does not accept here, and refusing here does not refuse there.
